Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has had his say on Joe Willock joining Newcastle United for a reported fee of £25m.

The young Englishman has been Steve Bruce’s top target all summer. He has been very vocal about his desire to sign Willock, and if reports are to be believed, it’s only a matter of time before it’s done now.

Football London claimed on Sunday that the Magpies have had a £25 million bid for Willock accepted by Arsenal. It looks like the midfielder is on his way back to Tyneside, and Campbell has told Edu exactly where to use that money.

Campbell: Arsenal should use £25m from Joe Willock sale to sign Aouar

Campbell was asked about Willock leaving for £25 million and Arsenal using the same money on a new signing. The former Gunner believes that Edu and Mikel Arteta should go back in for Houssem Aouar, who is said to be available for about the same fee.

He said on The Highbury Squad: “I thought we were going to get Aouar last season. The question on Houssem Aouar isn’t against Willock. It should be Aouar or Odegaard or Maddison or Bernando Silva?

“I think Aouar at £25 million. If you say, we are going to sell Willock for £25 million and bring in Aouar for the same money then you say that’s good business.”

The Insider’s View:

Some fans still can’t get their heads around the fact that we’re selling Willock after his performances last season. However, the £25 million that is set to come in will help us massively in our pursuit of a new attacking midfielder.

Aouar, at that price, is very tempting. The Frenchman, labelled as ‘incredible‘ by Pep Guardiola, was valued at over twice that amount last summer, and there’s absolutely no doubt about the fact that he’s a fantastic footballer.

However, with the likes of James Maddison and Martin Odegaard also in our sights, our focus should be on them. They are arguably a lot better than Aouar and both of them know the Premier League well. That should make this an easy decision for Edu.
