This may be another big summer transfer window for Arsenal.
Arsenal may well win the Premier League this season, but they haven’t been a truly ‘dominant’ force in recent weeks, and it’s clear there are still areas in the squad that could improve.
Viktor Gyokeres hasn’t been good enough up front, hence Arsenal’s links to Julian Alvarez, while a new left winger has been linked.
However, after spending over £250m last summer, there may need to be some outs before any ins at Arsenal this summer.
According to The Telegraph, there could be a few sales in this upcoming window, and Martin Odegaard’s future may be up in the air.
If Arsenal were to sell Martin Odegaard how much money would you want for him?
Martin Odegaard’s future is in doubt
The Telegraph report there is a “simmering doubt” around Martin Odegaard’s future at Arsenal.
The one-time £30m signing has been central to Mikel Arteta’s project, both as a creative force and as a leader. However, this season has brought more scrutiny. His performances have been inconsistent at times, and that has naturally led to questions about his long-term place in the team.
Odegaard has two years left on his contract, which means Arsenal will soon have to make a decision. Either they commit fully to him as the face of the team moving forward, or they begin to consider alternatives.
Max Dowman is developing quickly and is seen as a natural number 10 – albeit he has played on the wing a lot this season.
Eberechi Eze has also grown into that role, offering directness and creativity that has caught attention this season. Both players represent different options, but they increase competition in a position that has largely belonged to Odegaard.
There is also Ethan Nwaneri to consider.
He is another natural attacking midfielder, although his future is less certain with reports suggesting he could be sold. Even so, the presence of multiple young players in that role highlights a shift in squad planning.
On top of this, Odegaard’s captaincy has come under question in recent months, particularly during difficult periods. Tony Adams has even suggested that Declan Rice would be a better choice to lead the team. That kind of comment adds pressure, especially when you’ve been struggling with injuries and the team has continued to win.
This creates a complex situation for Arsenal, and it’s not one that will be easy to handle.
