Pundit urges Arsenal to save title ambition with Toney move

TalkSport pundit Majestic has claimed Arsenal must sign Ivan Toney.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney wants to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window, and Arsenal are one of the clubs keen on securing his services, as reported by The Mirror. 

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing the forward who is currently serving an eight-month ban for breaching betting regulations. Brentford are thought to have put a £60 million price tag on the 27-year-old.

Sunday’s 2-2 north London derby draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium demonstrated that Arsenal could do with a clinical striker in their squad.

Gabriel Jesus is a brilliant player and is a key figure for the Gunners, however, the £45 million Brazilian is not the most prolific of forwards. Equally, Eddie Nketiah is struggling to consistently show that he is of the level required for Arsenal if they’re serious about mounting and maintaining a genuine Premier League title challenge.

Arsenal must make Toney move

A top class finisher, such as Toney, could be the missing piece in the Arsenal puzzle. Pundit Majestic certainly believes the once-capped England international could take the north London club a big step closer towards actually winning the title.

Speaking on TalkSport, he said, “if they go and get Ivan Toney in January, Arsenal will be title challengers…that’s the one thing that’s missing from that Arsenal team. Everything else is there.”

Toney is certainly a proven Premier League goalscorer, He netted twenty times for Brentford last season, a return only bettered by Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

How Toney might capitalise on the kind of service provided by the likes of Martin Odegaard, Fabio Vieira, and Bukayo Saka, amongst others, is a tantalising prospect. 

In the context of the current transfer market, £60 million would also be something of a bargain price for Toney, given his quality, experience, and the years of being in his prime that he still has ahead of him.
