'90% he will join us': Club figure makes January transfer claim about Arsenal man

Fenerbahce congress member Murat Zorlu has claimed on Sport Digitale that Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is expected to join The Yellow Canaries in the January transfer window.

The German has been left out of the Premier League and the Europa League squads by Mikel Arteta. Ozil hasn’t played a single game for the Gunners since Project Restart. Arsenal’s hierarchy want him gone and they will not stand in his way if a club arrives with an offer.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Fenerbahce – the Turkish club Ozil supports – have been trying to sign him for a couple of years. The Real Madrid man has no future at Arsenal, and it looks like he has come to terms with it after over six months on the sidelines.

Zorlu reveals that he has been informed by a source close to the club that Ozil is an expected arrival in January. He has boldly claimed that the chances of a move are as high as 90% ahead of next month’s transfer window.

He said: “A source, who’s very well connected to the club has told me that Mesut Ozil is likely to become a Fenerbahce player during the next transfer window. I would say 90% he will join us in one month.”

Zorlu’s is verified on Twitter and his bio claims that he is a member of the Fenerbache congress. However, it is unclear if there is any truth in the rumour as Ozil has been adamant that he will not leave before the end of his contract.

Arsenal Insider’s view:

From the outside, the rumour certainly makes sense. Ozil is not playing at the moment and it is unlikely that he will ever feature under Arteta again. That points towards an exit and what better club to join than the one you support.

However, the chances of this move happening are very small. Ozil earns a mammoth £350,000-a-week. (Spotrac) Not many clubs in the world can afford that – certainly not Fenerbahce.

The Yellow Canaries’ highest-paid player is Luiz Gustavo who earns a measly £68,000-a-week. (Euro Football Rumours) Ozil’s salary is over five times that and there is no way that Fenerbahce can fork out that kind of money to lure him away from the Emirates next month.
