Arsenal’s latest pre-season defeat has sent further alarm bells ringing in the ears of supporters.

Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to create clear-cut chances for new centre forward Viktor Gyokeres with the Swede having just 14 touches in just over an hour on the pitch.

Gabriel Martinelli frustrated fans as he had numerous opportunities to set Gyokeres free in behind the defence but couldn’t find the right pass.

Andrea Berta has to bring in further creative options for the Gunners as they look to keep pace with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League and he could be about to repeat a trick deployed with Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal are waiting to sign Rodrygo on loan

Arsenal are focusing on player sales with the departures of Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira expected in the coming weeks.

It would give the Gunners scope to add more firepower to their attack and as per The Times, Real Madrid star Rodrygo is still on the club’s radar.

Interest has been strong in the Brazilian all summer and Rodrygo’s price tag has dropped with the Spanish giants looking for around £60m.

However, The Times are reporting that Arsenal could look to strike a loan deal with Real Madrid for the winger with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Odegaard arrived at the Emirates on loan from Real Madrid in January 2021 before making a permanent switch later that year.

It has worked once and it would enable the Gunners to potentially add Eberechi Eze to their ranks as well as Rodrygo.

Arsenal need to balance their attack before Rodrygo signing

The last two pre-season clashes have highlighted flaws from Arsenal’s attacking threat from last season and it needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

There is an over reliance on the right hand side in Arsenal’s attacks and Bukayo Saka is now getting marked out of games, leaving the Gunners looking toothless going forward.

Myles Lewis-Skelly operates as an inverted full back and whilst his qualities shine through in a central position, it leaves the left winger isolated.

Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have both struggled in the position and a player like Rodrygo would encounter the exact same issue.

Arteta needs to find a way to balance his attack and have the same threat coming from both sides. Service to Gyokeres is going to be key to success this campaign.
