Italian media outlet Inter News have slammed Arsenal for their ‘unacceptable’ opening offer to sign former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Dane over the last few weeks. Eriksen left Tottenham earlier this year for bigger and better things – who can blame him?

However, his move to Inter Milan has proved to be a disastrous one. Eriksen received just nine minutes of game time in November. He is not in Antonio Conte’s plans, and a move next month is imminent.

Arsenal desperately need a new number 10 to replace Mesut Ozil and Eriksen is reportedly on Mikel Arteta’s wish list. We could certainly do with a player of his quality, but if Sport Mediaset’s Claudio Raimondi is to be believed, our opening offer will not get him anywhere near the Emirates.

Arsenal’s opening bid for Eriksen is laughable

The journalist revealed on Tiki Taka – La Repubblica del Pallone that Arsenal are a serious option for Eriksen in January. However, our first offer to sign the Dane was just £10.7 million – Inter won’t even consider that.

The Nerazzurri reportedly spent close to £25 million to bring Eriksen to the San Siro. Inter will certainly make a loss if they sell him next month, but Arsenal’s opening bid is too far away from what they would view as an acceptable offer.

Inter News have criticised our £10.7 million bid. They go with the headline: ‘Are Arsenal serious or trouble?’, and have called Edu’s offer ‘crazy’, ‘negligible’ and ‘unacceptable’.

The report also claims that we aren’t the only club interested in signing him. There are other clubs in Europe lurking around him, and Arsenal will have to return with a better offer if Arteta really wants him.

Arsenal Insider’s view:

A £10 million bid was never going to be accepted and Arsenal know that. The likes of Houssem Aouar and Dominik Szoboszlai are higher on Arteta’s shortlist for the January transfer window but, if a player of Eriksen’s quality is available for a small fee, why not take him?

He is a proven commodity in the Premier League, he will solve our creativity issues and signing him will clearly annoy Tottenham fans – which all of us will thoroughly enjoy.
