It is unclear what kind of business can be expected from Arsenal in January, but it now appears that they are targeting a defensive midfielder.

Fluminense midfielder Andre has been linked with a move to Liverpool, with the 22-year-old impressing for the Copa Libertadores finalists, but it has now been claimed that Arsenal could throw their hat in the ring for him.

Technical director Edu Gaspar has plenty of ties to Brazil, and there are currently three Brazil Internationals in the Arsenal side in Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal are interested in Andre

Brazilian journalist Thiago Ferreira has now claimed that Arsenal may try and hijack Liverpool’s potential deal to sign Andre.

“I received some information and I want to share it with you, Arsenal are interested in André and will try to cross Liverpool for him,” he tweeted.

Fluminense have a Copa Libertadores final against Boca Juniors coming up in the next few weeks, and victory could be the perfect way for Andre to depart, but with plenty of eyes on him, a strong performance could raise his transfer value.

What would Andre bring to Arsenal?

Arsenal are well stocked with defensive midfielders, with Declan Rice, Thomas Partey and Jorginho, but the latter two are getting older.

Andre could be a younger option to help Arsenal move on from them, and he could be a perfect fit for this side.

He ranks in the top 1% of his peers when it comes to passing and progressive passing, whilst also ranking strongly for dribbling as per FBref.

He could be a nice blend of Jorginho and Partey, with the Italian’s eye for a pass and Partey’s strength on the ball, but he may still be quite raw when he first moves to Europe.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will try and usurp Liverpool for Andre, but he could be an excellent long-term option in the middle of the park.
