Arsenal have been linked with several midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window, and a surprise option has now emerged in Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

The 29-year-old has less than 18 months left on his contract with the German giants, and if he does not renew his deal, it will open up the possibility of a summer transfer.

Kimmich has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world over the last few years, making 372 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 41 times and providing 100 assists.

He is a defensive midfielder who can also play at right-back and could be a natural replacement for the injury-prone Thomas Partey.

Arsenal are monitoring Joshua Kimmich

A report from Rudy Galetti via Caught Offside has now revealed that Arsenal are among the teams tracking Kimmich’s situation at Bayern, should he not sign a new deal.

“Keep an eye on Joshua Kimmich aswell. His contract with Bayern expires in June 2025 with the German club trying to find a solution to renew it,” Galetti claimed.

“In the coming weeks, the Bavarians plan to increase the pressure on the player to accept the renewal, however, Kimmich hasn’t yet defined his future and if he doesn’t find an agreement with his current club, there would be the possibility for a move this summer.

“In addition to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are following his situation with great attention, whilst Barcelona are also monitoring things.”

Would Joshua Kimmich be a good signing for Arsenal?

Arsenal will be in the market for a midfielder, and there is no doubting the German’s top-class quality and versatility.

Jose Mourinho has previously described him as “absolutely phenomenal,” and he would arrive as a Champions League winner in his prime years.

However, financials could be a problem when it comes to Kimmich. He is one of Bayern’s top earners, and even with his contract situation, he would command a high fee for an ageing player.

Arsenal have been linked with Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad, and given his release clause and age, he may be the better value signing. However, despite his quality, he does not have the same level of experience at the top as Kimmich.

If he does indeed become available, then Arsenal should strongly consider a move, but they should also be wary of the fact that he is 29, and the finances of the deal would ultimately determine whether a move to the Emirates would be right for both the player and club right now.
