Arsenal fans are hoping that Mikel Arteta will dive into the market for new signings in this window.

Things have not been going to plan for the Gunners this season. They started the campaign with the dream of winning the Premier League title, but they are six points behind Liverpool already despite playing a game more.

To make things worse, Arsenal have had a number of injury issues. That has affected their performances and results over the last few months.

Arteta needs help from the market, and Arsenal have now been linked with a move to sign a Barcelona player.

Arsenal are ready to bid for Barcelona star Ronald Araujo

Ronald Araujo is a tremendous central defender when he is fit.

The Uruguay international has made 151 appearances for Barcelona and played a significant part in helping them win the Spanish league title in the 2022/23 season.

The 25-year-old has missed most of this campaign due to an injury, but he is back fit now and everybody knows that he is a brilliant player to have.

Barcelona would love to keep hold of Araujo, but Mundo Deportivo claim that the defender has asked to leave the club in the ongoing transfer window.

The report reveals that Arsenal are interested in Araujo, as are Juventus, and the Gunners are said to be ‘willing’ to make a bid to sign him.

Barca had been waiting to see if the Uruguayan will extend his contract, but they are now ready to evaluate any offers that come in for him.

Araujo’s current contract will expire in the summer of 2026. That deal includes a release clause of €1 billion (£835m), but we’re sure Barcelona will accept a fraction of that figure in this window.

Should Arsenal sign Araujo?

Arsenal don’t need another defender.

The Gunners already have William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as first-choice starters at centre-back. Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White, Jakub Kiwior, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber and even Declan Rice can play there if required.

Araujo is a brilliant defender, but Arsenal already have enough options in his position, and we think both Saliba and Gabriel are significantly better than him.

Arteta’s focus in this window has to be on their attack.

Arsenal need a new striker and a winger – if they can’t strengthen at least one of those two positions, they will likely go another season without winning any silverware.
