Arsenal could now beat Liverpool to the transfer of Leroy Sane if Mikel Arteta revives his interest in sealing a reunion with the Bayern Munich forward at Emirates Stadium.
That is according to The Athletic, which claims that Sane would prefer to live in London over a move to Liverpool. He would also favour a chance to spend time in the English capital than returning to Manchester. The 27-year-old spent four terms with Manchester City up to 2020.
Manchester City are further noted to be showing some interest in Sane potentially returning to Etihad Stadium next summer. He is only under contract at Bayern Munich until June 2025. So, the Citizens are now tracking the availability of the 2017/18 PFA Young Player of the Year.

Liverpool see Sane as their top transfer target to replace Salah
Bayern Munich are confident that Sane will agree to extend his deal at the Allianz Arena. Yet English suitors will be plentiful if Der FCB’s faith is misplaced. The Mirror, for example, noted in October that Liverpool see Sane as their No1 target to replace Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
Liverpool would even smash their transfer record to sign Sane as Jurgen Klopp would love to land the Real Madrid target. However, The Athletic now claims that the 58-cap Germany star admires the prospect of life in London. So, the capital is a far more likely destination for him.

Sane has attracted interest from sides in London before, with Arteta appreciating the idea of his transfer to Arsenal. Last December, Calciomercato noted that the Gunners manager eyed a swoop from Bayern Munich after the knee injury Gabriel Jesus sustained at the World Cup.
Sane would have considered a move to Arsenal due to Arteta
Arteta targeted Sane as an alternative to Mykhailo Mudryk before Arsenal, ultimately, signed Leandro Trossard in the January transfer market. His presence at the Emirates Stadium helm may have aided the Gunners in any pursuit, along with Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, too.
That is because Pete O’Rourke also noted last December that Sane would seriously consider a transfer to Arsenal. The Bayern Munich star would have studied a deal having worked with Arteta at the Etihad, plus his old Manchester City teammates now thriving in north London.
Sane left the Citizens for Bayern Munich in July 2020 for £55m after scoring 39 and creating 46 goals in 135 games. He has since scored 47 and assisted 44 in 151 outings with Der FCB. He even has nine goals and seven assists in 18 games so far this season in all competitions.
Eight of Sane’s goals and six of his assists this term have further come across 11 Bundesliga fixtures. He has failed to directly influence the scoring in just two games so far, too. His form has even seen Harry Kane hail Sane as a ‘fantastic’ player after finding an instant connection.
