Arsenal are in the market for a defensive midfielder this summer, with the future of Thomas Partey uncertain.
Partey missed most of last season through injury, and has just one year left on his Arsenal contract. Although an outstanding midfielder when fit and firing, his fitness issues mean he can no longer be relied upon.
Mikel Arteta is keen to add a number six to his squad, and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has been linked. However, it appears that the Spain International is not keen on a move away from his club.
Arsenal are still in the hunt for a midfielder, and they could now turn to a name not previously linked before, but with massive upside.
Richard Rios could be ideal midfield addition for Arsenal
Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios has been outstanding for club and country in recent months, and recently shone at the Copa America as his Colombia side reached the final.
The 24-year-old usually plays at the base of midfield, and brings a lot of height and moblity to the role. He was a standout performer at the Copa America, starting every game en route to the final, and even scoring against Panama in the quarter-final.
Rios’ best attribute is his dribbling ability, which combined with his physicality, makes him an ideal Partey replacement.
Partey excels at dribbling the ball out the back to help Arsenal push up the pitch, and Rios could be a perfect fit for this role, with his long passing also standing out at the Copa America.
How much could Richard Rios cost Arsenal?

Rios is reportedly valued at around £16m, but there are a lot of clubs interested in him, including AC Milan.
South American expert Tim Vickery described Rios as “dynamic,” and many believe that he is now one of the key talents to keep an eye on in South America.
It would be something of a risk for Arsenal to sign Rios straight from Brazil after a strong tournament showing, but if the club are willing to take a gamble and land a talent who has been constantly improving, the Colombian could be a wildcard option for Edu Gaspar this summer.
