Arsenal are set for a battle to land one target who has been compared to Premier League icon Harry Kane.

The summer transfer window was a success for Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar, who welcomed five new faces to the Emirates.

David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino became permanent parts of the project, with Raheem Sterling and Neto arriving on loan.

While Arsenal can be satisfied with the work done in the summer due to their unbeaten start to the season, some fans were disappointed not to see one position replenished.

Arsenal target Brazilian striker Igor Jesus

Arteta made transfer wishes come true during the summer of 2022 when the Gunners recruited Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

Signing a Premier League standard striker was something that supporters wanted to see, however, two years down the line the Brazilian is flattering to deceive.

As a result, the debate regarding whether Arsenal require a new striker continues, with Edu said to be scouting one talent in his homeland.

TBR reported that the Gunners are ‘watching’ Botafogo forward Igor Jesus, who joined the Brazilian side in the summer after spending four years in Dubai with Shabab Al-Ahli.

The report claims that Arsenal aren’t alone in tracking the striker, who contributed to 63 goals in 87 appearances at Shabab Al-Ahli, with Chelsea also taking an interest in Jesus.

The Gunners struck gold the last time they recruited a player from Brazil, signing Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano back in 2019, with there a possibility to take inspiration from capturing the winger.

Who is Igor Jesus?

Having learned his craft in Brazil and the Middle East, Jesus is less well known in Europe, prompting Arsenal Insider to get the insight of someone who has followed the player’s career.

We spoke to Brazilian journalist Rogerio Amaral Junior, who opened up about the ‘immediate impact’ the Arsenal target has made on his return to his homeland.

“Igor Jesus is a striker who was not very well known here in Brazil,” Junior said.

“Before signing with Botafogo, he played the last four years in Arab football. But his arrival had an immediate impact here.”

The 23-year-old has scored seven goals since arriving at Botafogo, seeing him earn a national team call-up, something that was celebrated in Brazil, as Junior explained.

“Even though he arrived recently, he became Botafogo’s absolute starter, contributing with important goals.

“He is very well regarded here in Brazil and has the support of journalists and fans to remain in the Brazilian team.”

The question that Arsenal fans will want to ask is how the 2001-born target plays, which Junior covered when speaking to Arsenal Insider.

“He is a physically strong striker, who usually plays more like a number 9, but also participates in creating plays outside the area.

“Not saying he’s as good, but his style is a bit reminiscent of Harry Kane.”

Having a clinical target man is what the Gunners need, with the creative aspects of the Brazilian’s game something to be celebrated by Arteta, who favours a player with rounded capabilities.

It will be interesting to see how Edu evaluates the striker, who for now, will continue to develop in Brazil with the hope to maintain attention from the Premier League.
