Mikel Arteta was finally forced to comment on Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer links to Arsenal.
After the Gunners touched down in Singapore for the first leg of Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia, Arteta was presented to the media.
It’s been a while since the Arsenal manager sat in front of the media in a press conference setting, giving journalists the chance to weigh in on the boss.
From transfer updates to pre-season plans, Arteta was put through his paces, with one of the Spaniard’s answers taking off on social media.

Arsenal fans spot Mikel Arteta hint in Viktor Gyokeres comment
Arteta was asked about Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres, who is waiting to get the green light to complete a transfer from Sporting CP.
The deal is a difficult one to pull off as Sporting aren’t willing to part ways with their talisman without a fight, something Arteta was asked about.
“I cannot comment on any player who is not part of our group yet. When we have something concrete to offer in any case to any player, we will do that,” Arteta said.
Fans quickly pounced on one part of Arteta’s reply, honing in on the boss’s decision to say the word ‘yet’.
“We all know that Arteta is a very, very sharp speaker. He knows what he’s done there,” one fan said.
“Pretty obvious he’s on his way!” another supporter said, as analysis of Arteta’s choice of words continued.
“He said “yet”. Bingo!”
“Yet was all I needed to hear”
Other fans singled out ‘yet’ as the ‘key word’ from Arteta’s press conference.
“The key word is YET, means everything is moving smoothly.”
“The key word is ‘YET’”
“Yet”, I’ll work with that,” another Arsenal fan wrote on X, as one decided to thank the boss in his native language.
“Not part of our group yet” I got what I wanted. Gracias hermano.”
Arteta will be disappointed not to have Gyokeres for pre-season
Arteta is notoriously coy in his press conferences; however, the boss certainly let something slide when discussing Gyokeres.
Whether the inclusion of ‘yet’ was intentional is unknown, but what is known is that Arteta would’ve preferred to have had the deal wrapped up by now.
Before pre-season, it was revealed that Arteta wanted a striker for the pre-season tour, something that hasn’t happened as striking a deal for Gyokeres is proving to be harder than anticipated.
It’ll be hoped that the Swede is worth the wait, as his ugly transfer saga with Sporting continues to drag on.
