Arsenal fans have now clearly told Mikel Arteta who he should sign to replace Gabriel Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli has failed to consistently impress for Arsenal so far this season. 

The Brazilian was left out of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI as the Gunners took on Fulham in a Premier League clash on Sunday. 

However, with Arsenal chasing a goal to win the game, Gabriel Martinelli was introduced to the fray in the second half.

The 23-year-old thought he’d played a key role in snatching a late winner, as his cross to the far post picked out Bukayo Saka who found the back of the net. However, a VAR review showed that Martinelli had strayed offside earlier in the move and the strike was chalked off, condemning Arsenal to a draw at Craven Cottage. 

As the winger could see across the line of the Fulham defence, he ought to have been able to hold his run and remain onside. Paul Merson called Martinelli’s error “criminal.”

Arsenal fans urge Mikel Arteta to sign Nico Williams

Arsenal fans slated Martinelli for his performance vs Fulham, and it is not the first time this season that the player has failed to get it right in the final third. 

Many supporters of the North London club on X have lost patience with Martinelli, and are now urging the club to make a move for Nico Williams. 

Arsenal have been linked with Williams before, and whilst he hasn’t been at his best in La Liga so far this season, the Spain international has proven his quality in the past.

One said: “Williams 100x better than Martinelli.”

Another stated: “Get rid of martinelli and sign Nico Williams.”

One Arsenal supporter claimed: “If Nico williams can come to Arsenal Martinelli should move on loan.”

Another insisted: “Martinelli needs to find some good form or he will be out of team but Williams is a good player 100%.”

Can Gabriel Martinelli save his Arsenal career?

Martinelli may have 4 goals and 3 assists to his name so far this season, across all competitions, but his unreliable decision making and wastefulness is a real problem for Arsenal.

However, the 16-cap Brazil international is still an extremely talented player with vast potential, and has shone for the Gunners in the past.

Martinelli still has the backing of his Arsenal teammates, and has time on his side when it comes to reaching the level he is capable of. He is lacking confidence right now, but that can change quickly if Arteta keeps faith in him and some good fortune goes his way.
