Arsenal are now being told to launch a surprise swoop for the services of Paul Pogba.
Paul Pogba could soon be set to get his career back on track.
The French midfielder has not played at all since September 2023 following a doping ban. It now looks as if he will never return to action for his current club, Juventus.
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, reporting on X: “Paul Pogba and Juventus, expected to agree on contract termination as he will become a free agent.
“Talks to follow from tomorrow after CAS verdict, as Paul will be available from March. Paul Pogba also feels a fresh start would be best solution for him and his career.”
This state of affairs has led to speculation that Arsenal could make a move to pick up Pogba on a free transfer. Sporting director Edu Gaspar may see this as an unmissable opportunity to add the former Manchester United man to Mikel Arteta’s squad in a cost-effective manner.
The Brazilian has already shown that he is willing to take a cheap punt on a deal for a player who is seeking to prove his worth. Edu negotiated a financially smart deal to sign Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea in the recent summer transfer window after he struggled to settle at Stamford Bridge, and may view Pogba’s circumstances as a chance to repeat the trick.

Arsenal fans plea for Paul Pogba signing
Plenty of Arsenal fans on X would certainly be excited to see the 31-year-old come to the Emirates Stadium.
One said: “Bring him in, if he fits the mentality and attitude of the squad Need to take wage cut too. Paul Pogba Has quality. And gets into a supportive environment. Arteta is best at resurrecting careers.”
Another stated: “As an arsenal fan I’ll choose Paul pogba over partey.”
One added: “Majestic footballer. Always felt like he should have been an Arsenal player. Would be a sweet fit for that left 8 role for us too. A Calafiori, Pogba, Martinelli LHS would be filthy business.”
Another chipped in with: “Pogba is still a baller and I want to see him at Arsenal even if it’s a short term I mean we have Partey and J20 who are 30+.”
Considering the influence Pogba might have on some of the club’s young talents, such as Ethan Nwaneri, one supporter said: “Nwaneri tutored by Ødegaard, Pogba and Jorginho… wow.”
Why Arsenal should consider Pogba move
Signing Pogba would represent something of a risk as his best days are likely behind him and he has been sidelined for so long. However, there are steps Edu can take to mitigate such concerns.
For a start, Arsenal should only consider offering the 2018 World Cup winner a deal if he is willing to join on a short-term basis, initially at least, and on heavily reduced wages too. This may still appeal to Pogba, who is clearly desperate to get his career back on track and would presumably be keen to do so for a title-chasing side.
On top of that, he would add strength in depth to the Gunners’ squad. Arteta has felt the effects of an injury crisis already this season, and will be keen to ensure that he has the numbers available to him to negotiate what promises to be a gruelling final stretch of the campaign.
