Arsenal find out how much Rafael Leao will cost after Andrea Berta adds AC Milan star to his list

AC Milan star Rafael Leao is a target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have a lot of work to do ahead of the 2025/26 season, and Andrea Berta is working very hard behind the scenes to get deals done.

Arsenal have agreed terms to sign Martin Zubimendi, and that is a big boost. The Spaniard will add a lot to Mikel Arteta’s midfield, but the Gunners need more in other areas of the pitch.

The attack has to be the priority, and although the focus is on a new striker, a winger is an absolute necessity as well this summer.

Leao is the latest name to come out of the rumour mill.

Rafael Leao is one of the best wingers in the Serie A.

The Portugal international has been at AC Milan since the summer of 2019. He joined them from Lille and has mostly been excellent for them.

Leao still has three years left on his contract at Milan, and the expectation is that he will continue at the San Siro beyond the end of this summer’s transfer window.

But, Sportitalia have revealed that Arsenal director Berta has included Leao in his wish list as he looks to strengthen Arsenal’s wide areas.

However, Leao won’t be easy to sign.

Calcio Mercato have claimed that only a ‘shock offer’ will open the door for a transfer this summer, and the figure Milan would consider is €100 million (£84.59m).

If Arsenal make such an offer for Leao and the deal goes through, he will become the Gunners’ second-most-expensive signing of all time.

Rafael Leao’s stats compared to Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard

Arsenal’s primary options on the left wing at the moment are Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Both players, on their day, are capable of scoring goals, tormenting full-backs and winning games for the Gunners, but neither is consistent enough.

Martinelli and Trossard’s numbers compared to those of Leao show what Arsenal are missing on their left flank.

As the table shows above, Leao averages a goal or an assist for Milan much more often than Martinelli and Trossard do for Arsenal.

The Portuguese attacker is absolutely rapid, is a fantastic dribbler, and his numbers tell you, he can have a huge impact in the final third.

Leao wouldn’t be a bad idea at all for Arsenal, but we just can’t see a world in which the Gunners will pay so much money for him.
