Arsenal have a problem in midfield.

The Gunners have the best partnership in the entire Premier League with Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, and both players have been unbelievable in the middle of the park.

However, the issue for Mikel Arteta is that he doesn’t have a top-class backup option at his disposal if one of them gets injured for a long period.

With the January transfer window open now, Arsenal have been given an opportunity to sign a player who can be a backup for both Rice and Zubimendi – Ruben Neves.

If you were Andrea Berta and could sign any player in the world right now, who would it be and why?

Ruben Neves has been offered to Arsenal

Neves was one of the biggest names in the Premier League a few years ago.

The Portuguese midfielder only played for Wolves, but he was linked with a move to almost every big club in England. Neves even admitted that he was close to joining Arsenal at one point.

However, in the summer of 2023, the midfielder moved to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Hilal. Now, he is keen to return to European football.

CaughtOffside have revealed that Arsenal are considering signing a new midfielder, and one player who has been discussed is Neves.

It has been claimed that the 28-year-old has been offered to Arsenal and other clubs in the Premier League, but there is no concrete movement from the Gunners just yet.

The January transfer window is officially open now, so sporting director Andrea Berta is free to make moves.

However, whether Neves will interest him remains to be seen.

Ruben Neves could be a very interesting option for Arsenal

Rice and Zubimendi are undisputed starters at Arsenal, and that is not going to change as long as they remain fit.

However, the England international missed the game against Aston Villa due to a knee injury, while the former Real Sociedad man is about to play the second half of the season without a winter break for the first time ever. That could take its toll.

Arteta will have to manage the two midfielders’ minutes, and the best way to do that would be by bringing in an experienced midfield option who can do a job when they need a break.

Neves, who was hailed as ‘world-class’ by former Wolves striker Steve Bull on Express & Star, checks all the boxes for Arsenal.

He’s excellent on the ball, can play as a six or in a box-to-box role, and, as he showed during his time at Wolves, he is capable of scoring screamers from outside the box.

If Neves is available for an affordable fee or on loan this month, Arsenal should really consider signing him.
