Arsenal have scouted ‘unplayable’ £85m striker ‘more than once’ ahead of January

Arsenal are expected to be quiet in the January transfer window but a few targets have emerged for Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar.

One of those is a striker who would add much-needed competition for Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian has only scored twice in the Premier League this season and although his all-round play is excellent, the Gunners do crave more firepower in the final third.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has already expressed his desire to join the club in January, however, the Bees have slapped a £60m price tag on his head.

Instead, Arsenal could look abroad and bring in a goal machine who is pillaging defences in the Primeira Liga and Europa League.

Arsenal are now interested in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres

According to Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness), Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Gyokeres ‘more than once’ and his file is ‘gaining space’ in the Gunners scouting department.

Arteta was made aware of the Swedish superstar last season after he scored 21 goals for Coventry City in the Championship.

Such prolific goal-scoring earned him a £20m move to Sporting Lisbon in the summer and he’s since become one of the deadliest strikers in Europe.

Gyokeres has posted an eye-watering 15 goals and seven assists in 17 matches in all competitions which is a record that propels him towards Europe’s elite forwards.

Once described as “unplayable” by former Sky Blues teammate Maxime Biamou, the 25-year-old would set Arsenal back a whopping €100m (£85m) if they were to trigger his release clause.

Gyokeres would fire Arsenal to the Premier League title

Arsenal are currently two points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League but if they were to break the bank and sign Gyokeres in January, he could fire them to their first league title since 2004.

The Sporting dynamo is the complete striker that the Gunners are craving. He’s excellent at using his strength to hold up play, can spin in behind with his pace and supply a deadly finish when presented with an opportunity.

Whilst his goal-scoring record speaks volumes about how clinical he is in front of goal, he would also bring the best out of Jesus by offering him some quality competition.

Jesus currently only has Eddie Nketiah – as a natural striker – threatening his place in the team. He isn’t the world-class forward who can apply pressure onto the Brazilian, whereas Gyokeres would be.
