Arsenal have emerged as contenders to sign Ferran Torres this summer.

According to 90min, Barcelona are keen to offload Ferran Torres this summer, and Arsenal, as well as Newcastle United and Aston Villa, hold an interest in signing him. Despite this, Torres himself would prefer to remain at the Camp Nou, but the Spanish club’s financial struggles mean they may need to cash in on the attacker.

The Gunners have already handed a new contract to Reiss Nelson this summer, but Mikel Arteta may well be keen to add further depth in the wide areas, as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli made 94 appearances between them in all competitions last season. Given he has the ability to operate on either flank, his presence could help to ease the burden on Arsenal’s wide men.

If Torres can be prised away from Barcelona he would add depth and quality to Arteta’s ranks. Having that to call upon will be more important than ever in the upcoming campaign, as the club are back in the Champions League and will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title again.

Who is Ferran Torres?

The 23-year-old has featured in the Premier League before. Torres spent a single full season with Manchester City before making the switch to La Liga. He won a title in that time, and that experience would be helpful in the Arsenal dressing room as Arteta’s side will be aiming to get over the line this time around after falling agonising short of clinching to trophy last time out.

Torres has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Spain. If he can settle at a club and enjoy the trust of a manager he has all the talent needed to flourish. Whilst Torres was at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola highlighted the 35-cap Spain international’s quality, saying “his numbers are exceptional…we used him and he was brilliant,” as quoted by Sky Sports.

Torres would certainly represent an exciting capture for Arsenal this summer.
