Arsenal now interested in ‘faultless’ £75k-per-week England international

Arsenal are believed to be keen on bringing AC Milan defender and England international Fikayo Tomori to the club. The talented centre-half could be perfect for Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners consistently search for ways to improve the squad, with a centre-back partner for William Saliba who would elevate Arsenal’s defence into one on par with Manchester City.

With Gabriel Magalhães, although he has steadily improved, it is known that an upgrade could be huge, especially considering Gabriel’s future has been questioned in the past.

That is where Arsenal seem to be diverting their attention, along with a striker which are two positions that could be invaluable to Mikel Arteta‘s development.

Now, it has emerged from Italy that £75k-per-week defender Fikayo Tomori is heading the Arsenal shortlist for the defence.

Arsenal interested in Fikayo Tomori

Arsenal are looking to sign an English centre-half according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato. On this list therefore is Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi but more interestingly Tomori of AC Milan.

Despite Arsenal’s interest, the report adds that the Rossoneri aren’t too keen on selling in January, or even the summer with Tomori a key player.

Tomori has a market value of £34.8 million, however, we expect that any deal could cost significantly more. A potential bargain given his home-grown status and the fact he is still just 25 years old and coming into his prime years.

Would Arsenal be upgrading on Gabriel?

Tomori is definitely an excellent centre-half who would be a solid signing for the Gunners. A defender who last season dominated Tottenham in the Champions League was a performance Rio Ferdinand said was ‘faultless’.

As seen on his FBRef profile, Tomori excels both on and off the ball boasting an 88.9% pass completion rate while also being progressive. He averages 2.22 tackles per game and 1.55 blocks which makes him so strong in defence.

When compared with Gabriel, it becomes apparent that Tomori would be an upgrade in all areas apart from possibly attacking threat with Gabriel boasting high figures in those areas. We definitely wouldn’t mind seeing Tomori become Saliba’s partner at the club.
