Arsenal now interested in ‘incredible’ £30m target who Fabregas absolutely loves

Although Arsenal have been expected to be quiet in January, a few targets have now emerged for Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar.

One of those being a midfielder who could add some much needed competition in the middle.

With Thomas Partey now often missing due to injury, it seems unlikely that Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny will have the legs to support Declan Rice for the whole season.

And with Douglas Luiz too expensive in January, and Martin Zubimendi looking increasingly settled in Spain, Arsenal may turn their attention elsewhere.

According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are now interested in Youssouf Fofana, a player Mikel Arteta is particularly keen on.

A price tag of £30m has been mentioned in the past, one that seems very reasonable in this market.

The 24-year-old Monaco midfielder has 15 caps for France, which bodes very well given the competition that exists in Didier Deschamps’ squad.

And via this information, Fofana could be available for a January transfer, a player who Monaco don’t want to lose for free when his contract expires in 2025.

Given his days at Monaco, Cesc Fabregas is very familiar with Fofana’s game.

As well as complimenting his ability among others, Fabregas was keen to see Fofana achieve a move to a big club back in 2022.

Speaking to RMC sport, he said: “When I came [to Monaco], Thierry [Henry] and Vadim [Vasilyev] also asked me to help grow the young people. It was an important point. Today, I feel like I have won the respect and sympathy of this younger generation.

“I hope I have helped. We like each other. I will continue to follow them, exchange with them. I would like to see Fofana, [Sofiane] Diop or [Aurelien] Tchouameni at Bayern or Liverpool!”

Of course, on that note Fabregas would surely now be very happy to see interest emerging from North London.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Arteta does make moves in January at Arsenal, a window which saw Jakub Kiwior, Leandro Trossard and Jorginho arrive last season.

And should they be active, an ‘incredible’ midfielder like Fofana to boost options in the middle would look very well advised.
