Arsenal are amongst the clubs targeting Santiago Gimenez.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid are all keen to secure the services of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

It is unsurprising to see Gimenez garnering such attention. The 22-year-old has been in scintillating form so far the season. Across all competitions, Gimenez has scored 18 goals in just 17 appearances for the Dutch outfit.

Whether or not the 24-cap Mexico international would be able to replicate anything like that kind form in the Premier League is another matter, but in any case, Gimenez has earned the opportunity to test himself at a higher level.

Mikel Arteta is certainly keen to add another striker to his ranks. Arsenal have been encouraged to secure a more prolific option to lead the line than their current choices, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

Ooptions such as Victor Osimhen, Evan Ferguson, and Ivan Toney have all been targeted by Arteta and sporting director Edu. However, each of those players may prove to be beyond the Gunners’ reach in financial terms. Gimenez would surely be a more affordable target to pursue, as long as a bidding war between interested parties doesn’t drive his price up.

Why Arsenal are considering Santiago Gimenez

Gimenez has a lot of qualities that should help him to thrive in the Premier League. He has previously been described as being “really fast” by former Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt, as quoted by Voetball International. He is also a powerful presence up front, and a lethal finisher in front of goal.

Whether Gimenez is a target being seriously considered at Arsenal with the upcoming January transfer market in mind remains to be seen. Given the Gunners are looking to mount a successful title challenge this season, Arteta may prefer to bring in a more proven option during the mid-season window.

In any case, it is easy to see why the Spanish coach wants to strengthen his hand in this part of the pitch. Jesus is an excellent player, who brings a great deal to the team with his flair and pressing ability. However, he is wasteful in front of goal.

Equally, Nketiah is not of the elite level that is required in order to lead the line week in, week out for a title-winning side.

The Feyenoord forward could well be the man to take the Gunners’ attacking contingent to the next level.
