Arsenal now on alert as £85m Napoli star sees contract talks reach ‘crisis’ point

Arsenal are aware that Napoli are now struggling to agree fresh terms with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Arsenal have previously been credited with an interest in signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

It is easy to see why Mikel Arteta would be so keen to bring the Georgian winger to the Emirates Stadium.

The 22-year-old was in scintillating form last season, scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists in the Italian top flight, as he played a key role in helping Napoli to secure an historic Serie A title triumph.

So far this season, Kvaratskhelia has not been able to hit quite the same heights, with just 5 goals and 4 assists to his name after 19 league outings. Though, it is also clear that the attacker is somewhat unsettled in Naples at present.

How Arsenal could respond to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia contract situation

According to Football Transfers, Kvaratskhelia’s ongoing talks over a new contract with Napoli have now reached a “crisis” point, with Arsenal now alert to the situation as the player’s future looks to be far from certain.

That being said, Kvaratskhelia would not come to the Emirates Stadium cheaply. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Napoli have slapped a €100 million price tag – currently equivalent to around £85 million – on the forward.

Given the Gunners’ current lack of transfer funds, it would be almost impossible for them to pull off a late January transfer deadline day swoop for the player, outside of the most extraordinary and sudden change in circumstances.

The north London club will be monitoring this situation up until the summer, though. If Kvaratskhelia does not agree fresh terms with Napoli soon, there there is the chance that he could become available for something of a cut-price fee this summer, as his existing contract does not come close to satisfying his wage demands.
