Arsenal look set to complete a permanent sale on deadline day, as young midfielder Miguel Azeez may finally depart the club.

Azeez was one of the brightest prospects in the Hale End academy over the years, and even appeared once in the first-team under Mikel Arteta, in a Europa League tie against Dundalk in 2020.

Now 21, a few failed loans at clubs including Portsmouth, Wigan and UD Ibiza have stunted his development, and put to bed any chances of succeeding at the Emirates, and he will now pursue a career elsewhere, with an exit likely today.

Journalist James Benge has now reported that Azeez could move to Spanish third-division side Atletico Baleares before the transfer deadline.

“Arsenal working on a permanent exit to Spanish club Atletico Baleares for Miguel Azeez, once considered one of the brightest prospects at Hale End,” he posted on X.

“This one could run to the wire and may not be concluded before the window shuts but there’s a will to get it done in time.”

Miguel Azeez was an excellent academy prospect

Azeez was highly rated within Hale End, and scored five and assisted three times in 38 games for the under-21s.

A powerful but technical central midfielder, he did have some impressive moments in his loan spells, and was described as “clever” by former Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley.

Injuries and a lack of consistent form, as well as stiff competition in the Arsenal midfield, meant that he could not find as much success in the first-team as some of his peers, with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe breaking into the side at a similar time to his original first-team debut.

Not many will have predicted Azeez to end up in a lower division by the age of 21, but this will be a chance for him to play regularly and get his career back on track after a few difficult years.
