Arsenal are keen to secure the services of Joshua Zirkzee.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Joshua Zirkzee for some time.

The Bologna striker has been in fine form so far this season, netting 9 times in 23 outings, across all competitions, for the Italian outfit.

The 22-year-old forward has caught the eye for the all-round nature of his game. As well as being a good finisher when give the chance to score, he is also able to effectively involve himself in the build-up phases of attacks and bring his teammates into play with clever passes in the final third. He is also a dominant aerial force with his 6’4” frame, and is capable of using his physicality to hold up the ball in the final third.

Zirkzee’s attributes and style of play has even see him compared with Arsenal legend and fellow Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp

Now, according to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal are now keen to “guarantee” a fee for Zirkzee and bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the north London club may well face intense competition for the player’s signature, as Manchester Untied are also keen on the former Netherlands under-21 international. As reported by The Express, the Red Devils view Zirkzee was the perfect candidate to forge a partnership up front with Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford.

When will Arsenal make move for Joshua Zirkzee?

Another issue Arsenal face when it comes to trying to lure Zirkzee, or any other target to the Emirates Stadium at this time, is a lack of available transfer funds. The Gunners have no real budget to speak of at their disposal, and journalist David Ornstein does not expect them to get any incoming business done in what remains of the current transfer window.

A move for Zirkzee, then, will almost certainly have to wait until the summer. It will be fascinating to see if the Gunners still consider him a top target by then, as they has been linked with a number of high-profile strikers who they could look to bring to the club.

A forward with a longer-term goal record of success may well be the order of the day for the Gunners by then. In the meantime, though, Mikel Arteta must fix his full focus on finding a way to get the best out of the attacking contingent of players that he already has at his disposal at the club.
