Arsenal retain an interest in signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.
According to The Mirror, Arsenal are keen to sign midfield ace Martin Zubimendi, who has a release clause worth £53 million.
Mikel Arteta has tried to bring Zubimendi to the Emirates Stadium before. In January, the Gunners matched the 24-year-old’s release clause, but the player did not wish to leave the Spanish club mid-way through the campaign, as reported by Spanish outlet Cadena Ser.
As per the aforementioned report in The Mirror, the Gunners will face competition for the twice-capped Spain international’s signature. Barcelona see Zubimendi as the ideal successor to Sergio Busquets.

Martin Zubimendi is the man Arsenal need
It is easy to see why Arteta is so keen to secure the services of Zubimendi. He would be an excellent addition to the north London club’s midfield contingent. With Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Mohamed Elneny all the wrong side of thirty, there is due to be a refresh in that part of the pitch.
Zubimendi is seen primarily as a defensively minded player, who would bring steel to the middle of the park for the Gunners, alongside Declan Rice. However, he has the capacity to have an impact in the final third, too, and the technical ability to be a true creative threat.
If Arsenal can convince Zubimendi to make the switch to north London on this occasion, then they have to trigger his release clause at the first opportunity. Alongside Rice, and club captain Martin Odegaard, the Spaniard would form a midfield trio capable of shining for Arsenal for years to come.
Arsenal do now need to move on from Partey. Just as Barcelona want Zubimendi to replace Busquets, Arsenal need him to take over from the injury-prone Ghanaian. Time will tell if Arsenal are able to beat the La Liga giants to the Real Sociedad man’s signature.
