Arsenal are set to sell several popular players this summer to strengthen the depth of the squad, and one has now taken action to put an exit into works.
Winger Reiss Nelson was on the verge of leaving for free last summer, but despite interest from several clubs, he signed a contract extension at Arsenal.
However, he started just one Premier League game this season, and despite Mikel Arteta’s side needing more pace and cover in wide areas, he was seemingly not trusted, and now looks set to depart.
Nelson is a highly talented player, but has hardly featured in the last two years, and with Arsenal set to strengthen their attacking options, his potential for game time is limited, and he now knows that a move away would be best for all parties.
Reiss Nelson tells Arsenal he wants to consider summer transfer
Journalist David Ornstein has now revealed in The Athletic that Nelson has told Arsenal that he wants to consider all options for a summer exit.
The 24-year-old has three years left on his deal, and his homegrown status could make him a valuable asset when it comes to a sale.
Arsenal reportedly turned down approaches for him in January, but could be prepared to sanction a sale this summer, and Edu Gaspar is reportedly looking for a fee around the £20m mark.
Nelson could be one of several homegrown players to leave this summer alongside Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah, and Arsenal could be set to profit as a result.
£20m Reiss Nelson sale will be very profitable for Arsenal

Given that Nelson is a homegrown academy product, a £20m sale would be pure profit for Arsenal in terms of profit and sustainability rules.
This would give Arsenal a massive boost when it comes to their finances, and allow much more spending power for any new arrivals.
Arsenal are keen on signing Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, who has a £43m release clause, and if the 21-year-old is keen on a move, then a sale of Nelson could go some way to funding this.
Nelson has shone at times off the bench, with a last-minute winner against Bournemouth last season the standout moment, but this did not earn him any further starting opportunities, and he is now keen to go and shine elsewhere.
