Barcelona are eyeing one Arsenal star who is a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The summer transfer window saw great change happen at the Emirates, as five players arrived to bolster the Gunners.
As well as the new arrivals, three first team players left permanently, seeing Hale End graduates Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe depart, as well as Aaron Ramsdale bidding farewell.
While the drama of the summer transfer market has only just calmed down, there is already thought to the January window at Arsenal.
Barcelona have Thomas Partey on their radar
Before the end of the season, Arteta and Edu have a decision to make regarding the futures of both Thomas Partey and Jorginho.
Both players are out of contract in the summer of 2025, with there a possible opening for Partey in January.
That is as per the understanding of Relevo, who report that the Ghanaian is ‘on the radar’ of Barcelona.
It’s claimed that the 31-year-old has been ‘sounded out’ by Barcelona Sporting Director Deco, with the previous result being that Arteta did not want the midfielder to leave.
The January window could however present a different outcome for Deco, as Partey has not renewed his contract at Arsenal, with no offer of a new deal coming from the club as of yet.
Partey’s previous experience of playing in LaLiga makes him a possible candidate for Barcelona to sign in the future, which could open the door for the Ghana international to bid farewell to the Premier League.
Partey’s future at Arsenal will soon become clear
The Gunners’ stance on the player’s future is unknown however, reports have suggested that Arsenal are ‘yet to show an appetite’ to renew Partey’s contract.
What will become clearer as time goes on is whether Arteta considers Partey as a firm part of his plans, with Mikel Merino’s role set to materialise in the coming months.
The Spaniard was signed in the summer to presumably replace Partey however, an injury early into his Arsenal career saw the transition in midfield stall.
Should Merino return from international duty and earn a spot in the starting XI, Partey’s time in North London could be all but over, alerting Barcelona to his availability.
There’s no clarity as to whether the Catalan giants would approach Partey in January or in the summer, with it set to be a decisive few months for the Ghanaian as his Arsenal future is placed under the microscope.
