Arsenal have now made contact with Atalanta to discuss the possibility of signing Ederson.

Arsenal are known to be on the lookout for a new midfielder.

The Gunners are due an overhaul in the middle of the park, as Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, and Jorginho all now face uncertain futures at the Emirates Stadium.

Partey has been linked with a return to Spain, and was also the subject of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs in the recent summer transfer window. Arsenal are actively seeking to move on Elneny already. Meanwhile, fresh contract talks with Jorginho have reached a “standstill”.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of potential transfer targets in this part of the pitch. Everton star Amadou Onana is thought to be keen on a move to north London. Sporting director Edu is said to be willing to trigger the £52m million release clause of Martin Zubimendi in order to prise him away from Real Sociedad. Mikel Arteta, though, has his heart set on “dream” target Douglas Luiz, who currently plies his trade for Aston Villa.

Who is Arsenal target Ederson?

Now, however, Atalanta midfielder Ederson has entered the frame. According to Goal, Arsenal have made made a late, deadline day enquiry to the Serie A club about the 24-year-old’s availability. The Brazilian is also wanted by Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and PSG.

The Italian outfit have put a £30 million price tag on the player, as reported by Calciomercato.

Ederson would be an interesting addition to Arteta’s squad. He has been described as an “energetic” presence in the middle of the park, and he certainly has the physicality and stamina required to provide solid protection for a back four. He also has an eye for goal, having chipped in with five strikes in Serie A so far this season.

His arrival at the Emirates Stadium would provide additional cover for Declan Rice. The pair could even play together, with Rice being freed up to undertake the more advanced left-eight role, and Ederson providing a solid platform at the base of the midfield behind the former West Ham United man.
