Arsenal winger Marquinhos is now set to leave the club in the coming days, having been recalled from his loan at FC Nantes.

The Brazilian struggled in his short spell in France before returning and was in limbo as he joined the Brazil squad for their under-23 pre-Olympic qualifiers.

The 20-year-old joined last summer as a young talent directly from Brazil, but despite scoring a stunner on his first start in the Europa League against FC Zurich, he failed to impress overall.

Marquinhos is now set to depart on another loan, and this time, it seems that he will not return once the deal is completed.

Marquinhos will depart Arsenal soon

Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Charles Watts revealed that Marquinhos was not included in Arsenal’s Champions League squad for the second half of the season, which has seen Jurrien Timber registered, as he is set to leave.

“Marquinhos isn’t in it. There’s no Marquinhos for Arsenal, even though he’s been recalled from his loan,” he stated.

“He’s currently away in Brazil at the moment, in the Olympics qualifying, but he’s not included even though he would be coming back and be available. That is because there are talks ongoing about Marquinhos’ future.

“It looks like he probably will in fact, be staying out in Brazil, and will join someone at the end of the Olympic qualifying, whether that be for Corinthians or Fluminense, it’ll be someone.

“Talks are ongoing with Arsenal and the expectation is he will seal a move, potentially one that includes an option to buy, come the end of the season.”

Marquinhos was a failed signing overall

Journalist Chris Wheatley has now reported that Marquinhos will join Brazilian giants Fluminense, who recently won the Copa Libertadores.

Edu Gaspar played an influential role in the signing of Marquinhos, whom Arsenal paid a fee for despite him nearing the end of his contract at Sao Paolo.

He did show glimpses of talent, but was far too raw to succeed at Arsenal, and failed loan spells at Norwich City and Nantes did not help him develop, and it now appears that Mikel Arteta is ready to accept an offer as he does not believe he will become a part of his squad any time soon.

The young winger was initially touted as a backup for Bukayo Saka, but he is still well off the required level, and will now return to his native Brazil.
