Arsenal are leading Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

The Gunners are expected to be on the market for a new wide player in the summer transfer window, and they have been linked with several names already.

Gordon has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time now, and there is confidence within those at the Emirates that he would be ready to make the switch to North London.

Arsenal are favourites to sign Anthony Gordon over Liverpool and Manchester United

Arsenal could do with an upgrade on their left wing.

The Gunners currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in that position, while Eberechi Eze can also play there if required.

On paper, those are excellent options, but if you look at Arsenal’s entire squad, the left wing is their weakest position.

That is why Andrea Berta is looking for reinforcements, and The Sun have now revealed that Arsenal are leading the chase to sign Anthony Gordon.

The report claims that Liverpool and Manchester United are both interested in the Newcastle star, but Arsenal believe he would be happy to snub the north and move down south to London.

Newcastle United are said to have slapped a £95 million price tag on Gordon, who has scored just three Premier League goals all season, but Berta is not going to match those demands.

It has been revealed that Arsenal want to strike a deal for a fee between £75 million and £80 million.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly a big admirer of Gordon and likes his versatility. The England international can play on either wing and has also been deployed as a striker recently.

Should Arsenal sign Anthony Gordon?

Gordon checks a lot of boxes that Arteta looks for in a winger.

The Newcastle United man is quick, can dribble past players, can score goals and has Premier League experience. He works tirelessly out of possession too.

However, Arsenal should be looking at much better options than Gordon. The likes of Kenan Yildiz, Rafael Leao and even Rodrygo seem like far better alternatives.

With an expenditure of over £75 million expected, Arsenal should be looking at someone who raises the level of their squad immediately, just like Declan Rice did when he joined for big money.

As good as Gordon is, we just don’t think he’s a massive upgrade on either Martinelli or Trossard.
