Arsenal now know what they will need to pay in order to sign Douglas Luiz.

Journalist Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport, has revealed that Aston Villa will want “at least £70 million” from Arsenal in exchange for Douglas Luiz.

The Midlands outfit are extremely reluctant to part with the midfielder, so Unai Emery will be sure to drive a hard bargain if the Gunners do come to the table with an offer.

According to 90min, Arsenal are keen on striking a deal for Luiz in the upcoming January transfer window, with Mikel Arteta having admired the Brazilian for some time now.

It is easy to see what makes Luiz such an attractive prospect to the Arsenal manager. The 25-year-old was previously described as an “unbelievable” player by former boss, Dean Smith, and has established himself as a star at Villa Park.

As well as being technically excellent on the ball and something of a goal threat himself, Luiz is a battling, tenacious presence in the middle of the park. He boasts fantastic stamina, and has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt, which Arteta certainly values highly.

Douglas Luiz can be part of Arsenal midfield rebuild

At this stage, Arsenal ought to be planning for life without Thomas Partey. The time has come for the north London club to admit that the 30-year-old’s fitness issues undermine his usefulness to the club.

Luiz is the ideal candidate to be the Ghanaian’s heir. The fact that Mohamed Elneny and Jorginho are also coming towards the end of their careers means that there is a pressing need for new blood in that part of the pitch at Arsenal.

Alongside Declan Rice, the Aston Villa man could form a formidable midfield unit for years to come. Whilst the price tag is undoubtedly high, the nine-cap Brazil international would absolutely be an excellent addition to Arteta’s squad.
