A round-up of the latest Arsenal transfer news as Alan Shearer admits that Newcastle United think one of Mikel Arteta’s striker targets is like Gunners legend Thierry Henry.

The Emirates Stadium side are in the market for attacking reinforcements this month if their finances allow worthwhile moves. Arteta believes Arsenal need fresh options in his frontline having lacked the same spark as last season. But FFP limits are hindering who they can sign.

Arsenal have only scored 37 goals across their 20 Premier League games so far this season. Bukayo Saka is also leading their chart with six in 19 games, ahead of Eddie Nketiah with five in 19. The Gunners scored 45 goals through their first 20 matches of the 2022/23 campaign.

Arsenal transfer target Ivan Toney is demanding more than £200k-a-week to leave Brentford in January, reports talkSPORT. The striker has also caught the interest of Chelsea for a mid-season move. But Mikel Arteta’s top striker transfer target is intent on landing a big pay rise.

The Newcastle United coaching staff are likening Alexander Isak to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, according to Alan Shearer. He has told The Athletic that the Toon believe the striker is showing the same ‘blistering speed’ and ‘gorgeous, fluid movement’ as the France hero did.

Shearer’s comparison also comes amid reports by Football Transfers that Arsenal are huge fans of Isak and have expressed their interest in a switch from Newcastle. The Daily Mail also notes that the Toon accept they may have to sell a few star players to prevent FFP problems.

Aston Villa coach Unai Emery has made former Arsenal defender Calum Chambers available for a transfer. The ex-Gunners boss has stated that the 28-year-old ‘can leave’ Villa Park this month. Chambers is so far yet to play in a single Premier League fixture in the 2023/24 term.

Arsenal will take a long-term approach to signing a new left-back in the January sales, as per Dean Jones. The Gunners do not have the budget to sign a world-class defender this month. So, Arteta will sign a squad player who the Gunners can develop into a more important star.
