Arsenal are ‘very interested’ in rivalling FC Barcelona and Real Madrid for the transfer of Dani Olmo with the Spain midfielder now considering leaving RB Leipzig next year.

That is according to Mundo Deportivo, which reports that Olmo is giving serious thought to a new adventure next summer. The 25-year-old has also been contemplating his future with RB Leipzig for months. His stance has even alerted some of Europe’s elite, including Arsenal.

Olmo has suitors across the continent with Xavi Hernandez keen to take the playmaker back to Spain with Barcelona. But the Blaugrana icon may face competition from Real Madrid for the Catalan native. Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City also have eyes on a move.

Arsenal are firmly in the race for Dani Olmo’s transfer in 2024

Arsenal et al are very interested in Olmo and might not hesitate at the €60m (£52m) release clause in his contract with RB Leipzig to secure a transfer. The 32-cap playmaker insisted on the clause when negotiating an extension until June 2027 with the Bundesliga club this June.

Die Roten Bullen conceded and gave Olmo the release clause as he was not intending to quit them in 2024. But, just four months later, he is now giving serious thought to leaving Saxony. The ex-Barcelona youth talent might even seek to leave RB Leipzig at the end of this season.

Circumstances throughout the 2023/24 season so far have tempted Olmo to reconsider his future with RB Leipzig. The playmaker will also appreciate a return to Barcelona having left for Dinamo Zagreb whilst only 16. But Olmo is not closing any doors for his transfer in 2024.

Mikel Arteta is ‘very aware’ of Dani Olmo’s future for RB Leipzig

Arsenal et al have a chance at Olmo’s transfer as the Spain star wishes to join a top team. He knows that now is the time to make the leap after offering RB Leipzig 26 goals and 30 assists in 127 games. He hit five goals in four games this term but suffered a knee injury last month.

Olmo is due to return to fitness after the October international break and knows that Xavi is targeting his return to Barcelona. Xavi loves the playmaker’s qualities, competitiveness and versatility. But Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also ‘very aware’ of Olmo’s future for RB Leipzig.

Arteta would have to rival Pep Guardiola, though, as Manchester City believe Olmo can help to replace their elder statesmen. Olmo also captivates Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone. He showed why with a hat-trick to beat Bayern Munich in the 2023 Supercup in August, too.

“Olmo is an outstanding footballer,” RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose said, via Bundesliga.com. “It was a great performance… The way he took the second goal was fantastic. The thing that impresses me even more, though, is how he drives the team on and helps younger players.”
