10 goals, 11 assists: Arsenal reportedly want 'big-game' player who is simply 'sensational'

According to Football London, Arsenal really are interested in signing Leicester City star James Maddison this summer.

The Gunners recently missed out on Emiliano Buendia and if a report from The Athletic is to be believed, Martin Odegaard is no longer an achievable target either. That leaves a big hole to fill in attacking midfield.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Emile Smith Rowe will start the season as our first-choice number 10 and he is an amazing player. He has all the qualities to be a star every time he starts a game for Arsenal, but history shows that he is prone to regular niggles. That is a huge concern.

Mikel Arteta simply cannot risk going into the new season with just one top-level attacking midfielder. We need to bring another player in and Odegaard was perfect for that role, but Maddison is even better.

The Englishman didn’t manage a single goal or an assist in the final three months of the Premier League last season. However, he still ended the campaign with 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, which shows just how incredible he is.

He has helped take Leicester to a whole new level in recent years and, unsurprisingly, Brendan Rodgers is a huge fan. The Foxes boss absolutely loves Maddison and has labelled him in the past as a ‘big-game player‘ whose first touch and passing are simply ‘sensational‘.

James Maddison will cost Arsenal a fortune

The financial impact of the global pandemic has certainly played its part in hurting player valuations. Maddison may not be worth the £80 million he was valued at 18 months ago, but don’t expect his price to be too far off that figure.

We’re just speculating here but Arsenal may have to spend at least £60million to have any chance of signing him. That could prove to be a bit too much, especially considering that we won’t be in Europe next season.

However, Arsenal have surprised many people in recent years with big-money signings when reports have claimed that we were cash-strapped. We could shock the world again by signing Maddison, but it will be really difficult.
