Arsenal are hopeful of landing Martin Zubimendi in the summer transfer window.
During the winter market, news emerged that Arsenal were close to agreeing a deal to sign Zubimendi.
Since then, links have been turbulent, as while the Gunners remain very much interested in the midfielder, other clubs are eyeing his signature.
Real Madrid want to sign Zubimendi, but that doesn’t seem to faze Arsenal, who are eager to close the deal ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Martin Zubimendi hints at transfer exit amid Arsenal links
Zubimendi has a release clause of £51m, making him an affordable investment for Arsenal to make in midfield.
Some have wondered whether Zubimendi’s arrival will be impacted by Thomas Partey, who, despite nearing the end of his Arsenal contract, could extend his stay.
Being a player very much committed to Real Sociedad, the 26-year-old has kept his cards close to his chest regarding a possible transfer, but he recently let one thing slip.
Speaking to Marca, Zubimendi spoke about his time at Real Sociedad, where, interestingly, he spoke about his achievements in the past tense.
“We get used to so many good things happening to me, but sometimes you have to slow down, look back, and realise everything you’re experiencing and everything you’ve achieved.
“Luckily, I’ve had the chance to experience many good things with Real Sociedad, many dreams come true: Europa League, Champions League, a title—I couldn’t ask for more.”
The midfielder appeared to be satisfied with what he’s achieved at Sociedad, the club he’s represented his entire career, something that could indicate that the end of his stay is in sight.
How Zubimendi compares to Thomas Partey and Declan Rice
Depth in holding midfield is needed this summer as Arteta eyes a revamp in the engine room.
With Declan Rice and Mikel Merino adopting roles further forward, Partey has been Arsenal’s lone soldier in the number six position throughout the campaign.
| Per 90 statistic | Martin Zubimendi | Declan Rice | Thomas Partey |
| Progressive passes | 5.92 | 6.12 | 6.09 |
| Tackles | 2.34 | 1.77 | 2.85 |
| Clearances | 2.48 | 1.50 | 1.64 |
| Tackles won | 1.24 | 0.82 | 1.75 |
| Aerials won | 1.67 | 1.05 | 0.93 |
| Recoveries | 4.38 | 4.87 | 4.38 |
As a result, acquiring a player of Zubimendi’s profile is needed, as seen through his numbers, which reveal how statistically comparable the Spaniard is to the two Arsenal midfielders.
The defensive-minded midfielder could offer Arteta more stability, and perhaps branch out into other areas of his game, just as Rice has at the Emirates.
It remains to be seen what happens to Zubimendi in the summer, but the player’s latest interview suggests that he’s braced for change.
