Arsenal have been linked with a move for their former prodigy Donyell Malen, who is set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Malen was a highly promising talent in the Hale End academy, but was sold in 2017, and since went on to thrive for PSV Eindhoven before joining Dortmund.
The Netherlands International, who scored in a friendly match against Scotland last night, has impressed at Dortmund this season, scoring 13 times in 33 games across all competitions, but Dortmund’s intention to keep Jadon Sancho beyond this season could mean he is allowed to leave for the right offer.
However, if Arsenal do make a move for him, it now appears that they will face competition from Liverpool.
Arsenal will face competition from Liverpool for Donyell Malen
Bundesliga journalist Christian Falk has now told CaughtOffside that Dortmund are open to letting Malen leave, but as well as Arsenal and Manchester United, Liverpool are interested in the attacker.
“Donyell Malen is currently playing in his best form since he joined Dortmund. Manchester United are interested in him. Dortmund would give him away. A swap deal would be possible,” he stated.
“Good for Dortmund: Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC are also interested in the Dutchman.”
Should Arsenal pursue a move for Donyell Malen?

Arsenal are in need of a winger who can provide cover for Bukayo Saka, and Malen could be perfect in this sense.
He has previously been compared to Saka, as stylistically, he provides a similar alternative. Whilst he is right-footed, compared to Saka being left-footed, he also provides strong end-product and dribbling ability.
Malen’s ability to play across the front line makes him particularly useful, and if the price is right, Arsenal could do a lot worse than bringing back their former wonderkid, with the 25-year-old now a more mature, and deadly winger.
The Dutchman’s end product makes him particularly appealing, as he scored 55 and assisted 24 times in 116 games for PSV, and he would arguably be an upgrade on Reiss Nelson, who looks likely to leave this summer.
However, the price tag would play a huge part in the deal, and given the interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, Malen may not come cheaply.
Arsenal will look to bring in a winger though, and Malen could be an option which solves multiple issues, given his ability to play on both wings and even as a striker.
