Arsenal were recently dealt a blow as talented youngster Amario Cozier-Duberry departed the club when they wanted him to stay.
The 19-year-old was regarded as one of the best prospects in the Arsenal Academy, and many drew comparisons between Cozier-Duberry and Bukayo Saka.
Mikel Arteta is looking to add a winger who can provide cover on the right wing, but he did not yet trust Cozier-Duberry in this role. In the Carabao Cup, he started Charles Sagoe Jr ahead of him on the right.
The teenager has now joined Brighton, and it has now emerged that Arsenal did not want him to leave as they had a plan outlined for him.
Arsenal plan for Amario Cozier-Duberry revealed
It has now been reported by The Standard that Arsenal had no intention of letting Cozier-Duberry leave for free, in what has now become a frustrating deal.
“Arsenal had wanted Cozier-Duberry to stay and offered him a new deal over a year ago, with a view to sending him on loan back in January,” they revealed.
“There is a feeling at Arsenal that the level to break into the first team is higher than in previous years, but there was a belief that Cozier-Duberry could have made that step by going out on loan.”
Arsenal face Omari Hutchinson and Serge Gnabry repeat with Amario Cozier-Duberry

The winger’s departure from Arsenal will no doubt frustrate Mikel Arteta, particularly given that he has now gone to Brighton.
A strong campaign with first-team minutes at Brighton could see Cozier-Duberry significantly raise his value, and had he done this in a loan spell after signing a new deal at Arsenal, he could have either worked his way into Arteta’s thinking or departed for a huge fee.
Arsenal recently lost winger Omari Hutchinson for a small fee, and Chelsea managed to sell him to Ipswich Town for a substantial fee after a successful loan spell.
Serge Gnabry also went on to become a superstar winger at Bayern Munich after a premature departure from Arsenal, and the club may now fear a similar scenario with their academy product if he thrives at Brighton.
If they were able to tie him down to a new deal, he could have gone out on loan and still remained part of Arsenal’s future plans, but this idea was ruined as the player chose to depart in search of a clearer pathway to first-team action, a motivation which could also see Chido Obi-Martin potentially leave.
