Arsenal have made an approach to sign one high-profile free agent this summer who would add experience to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

With the signing of Jorginho, Mikel Arteta has already shown that he is unafraid to add an older player to his Arsenal squad, as long as he believes that the price is right and the player in question still has plenty to offer.

Jorginho has been a triumph at the Emirates Stadium, regularly impressing with his quality on the pitch and his leadership off it.

Despite the presence of the midfield veteran though, Arsenal still face a lack of experience in the dressing room, an issue that has only been exacerbated by the recent departures of Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares.

Arteta is clearly aware of this, and has already made an effort this summer to bring in a player who would add both quality and experience to the Gunners’ roster.

Arsenal reach out to free agent Sergi Roberto

Sergi Roberto is currently without a club, as financial issues at Barcelona have meant that the Spanish giants were unable to register the 32-year-old on their books, having offered him a new deal.

As such, the versatile Spaniard, who can operate as both a full-back and in the middle of the park, is now available as a free agent.

Whilst he still holds out a hope of re-joining Barcelona, Arsenal have shown an interest in securing his services. As reported by Sport, the Gunners have ‘asked’ the player about his availability in the hopes of striking a deal.

Whilst they would still have to offer the 11-cap former Spain international a significant wage packet and a signing fee, this would still represent a bargain deal for a player who has proven himself at the very highest level.

What Sergi Roberto would bring to Arsenal

Beyond just experience, Roberto would bring quality to the Emirates Stadium. He has spent his entire career so far at the Camp Nou, racking up almost 400 first team appearances for the club.

In that time, Roberto has won seven La Liga titles, two Champions Leagues, and six Copa del Reys, amongst numerous other honours.

He brings composure to the middle of the park, and possesses tremendous work rate, allowing him to make an impact at both ends of the pitch.

Roberto could prove to be a brilliant bargain signing for Arsenal.
