It is no secret now that Arsenal’s priority summer target was Lyon’s Houssem Aouar. The Frenchman was high on Mikel Arteta’s wish list, but he proved to be too expensive in the end, and the Gunners signed Thomas Partey instead.
Partey, in the games he has played so far, has proved to be a top signing. The Ghanaian has been extremely assured in Arsenal’s midfield, and his performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford was beyond incredible.
However, Partey’s addition doesn’t quite fill the void we currently have in the number 10 role. Without a natural creator in the team, Arteta’s men have struggled in attack and have scored just nine goals in as many league games so far.
Arsenal have a chance to sign Aouar now
Arsenal fans are hoping that Mikel Arteta will dive into the January transfer market in search of a creative midfielder. Aouar is many people’s preferred option, but his price-tag meant that he would be beyond our reach in the winter window.
However, Arsenal might have a chance to sign him now. L’Equipe have revealed that Lyon are taking disciplinary action against Aouar for his behaviour over the last week.
The Frenchman was left on the bench last weekend against Angers and that clearly annoyed him. He reportedly refused to train this week as a result, and that has forced the club’s sporting director Juninho to drop him from the squad for Sunday’s game against Reims.
A clash like this one is never ideal for a club. Aouar is arguably Lyon’s most valuable player at the moment. He is on many clubs’ sights, and that fact that Les Gones have decided to punish him will put interested parties on red alert.
The January transfer window is just a little over a month away. Aouar will definitely not be happy with Lyon’s treatment and it won’t be a surprise if he forces a move away from the club in about five weeks time.
Some Arsenal fans think Aouar is doing what Aubameyang did before he joined us in January 2018. The Gabon international was accused of poor discipline by the media when he wanted out of Borussia Dortmund, and many Gunners supporters feel that the Lyon man is doing the same to join us in January.
