Chelsea made contact with Arsenal this week over a potential deal for Ethan Nwaneri, having also asked about him in January.
The 18-year-old has just returned from an unsuccessful loan spell at Marseille, where he struggled to break into the team.
Fill the blanks: Ethan Nwaneri’s next loan club should be _______
Nwaneri will feel that he has not really had a chance to progress as a player next season and will be eager to ensure the same does not happen again next term.
Arsenal are open to selling Nwaneri this summer in order to raise funds for other moves, and Chelsea are among the clubs tracking him.
Chelsea ask about signing Ethan Nwaneri
Chelsea have contacted Arsenal to ask about signing Ethan Nwaneri; however, a deal for the teenager is seen as unlikely, according to Simon Phillips.
Despite doing numerous trades over the recent season, the Gunners are unwilling to sell any of their top Hale End stars to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to SPTC Podcast, Phillips revealed: “Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal is another one. This one, there’s actually been contact from Chelsea this week.
“I remember being given his name months ago, it might have even been like a year ago, so Chelsea have always liked him, always watched him.
👀 Who is the FIRST Arsenal player Andrea Berta must sell this summer?
“Obviously, last summer, there was a situation around him; he wanted to go and play more. He’s gone on loan to Marseille for this season, and he’s done quite well there.
“So, Chelsea are still very much looking at the player, and they have made contact, but the follow-up to that, again, is similar to the Rashford story.
“I think it’s very, very unlikely because I’ve also heard that Arsenal don’t want to sell any of their top young players to Chelsea.”
Nwaneri is still expected to leave the Premier League champions this summer, but many supporters will be hoping only on loan.
The youngster remains a real hope for the future, but Andrea Berta may see it as a good chance to raise funds to bring in new additions instead.
Arsenal value Nwaneri at around £52 million, and selling him for such a fee would be a massive boost for the club’s transfer plans.
