‘Complete’ player now genuinely can’t wait to leave Arsenal, he’s agreed a deal

Arsenal are looking to sell several players before the transfer window closes on Monday, and one may now be on the verge of sealing a move.

The Gunners have signed seven players thus far, spending almost £250 million in the process, and still want to add one more.

Piero Hincapie has emerged as the ‘ideal’ target for Mikel Arteta, although the North Londoners will have to shift some players to ensure their squad isn’t bloated.

Jakub Kiwior is closing in on a switch to Porto, while the likes of Fabio Vieira, Sambi Lokonga and Oleksandr Zinchenko are also on the chopping block.

Trabzonspor have reached an agreement for Sambi Lokonga

Sambi Lokonga is one of those Arsenal want to sell before the transfer deadline.

The Belgian spent last season on loan at Sevilla, where he made just 16 La Liga starts due to persistent injury issues.

Returning to Arsenal this summer, Lokonga, who has been described as ‘complete’, travelled with Arteta’s squad to Asia for the Gunners’ pre-season tour, but didn’t play a single minute.

Left out of both squads for the opening two matches of the season, it’s clear that he’s surplus to requirements in N5.

Little interest in the 25-year-old had emerged until Tuesday, with Turkish outlet Sonnokta Trabzon reporting that Trabzonspor have reached ‘an agreement in principle’ to sign the midfielder.

The Turkish Super Lig club prefer a loan deal with an option to buy, and although it has previously been reported that Arsenal want to sell Lokonga permanently, there is no indication that the Gunners are against the deal on offer.

Sambi Lokonga is the sort of punt signing Arsenal should make

While the signing of Lokonga hasn’t ultimately worked out, it’s the sort of deal Arsenal should be doing more.

The Belgium international was a highly-rated youngster emerging from a good league, available at a low cost.

The upside was significant for him, while the worst-case scenario was that he wasn’t quite at the level, and he eventually moved elsewhere, having paid just £17 million; this is what has ultimately happened.

The Gunners should constantly be scouring the market, looking for potential gems and investing in them.

The £13 million signing of Cristhian Mosquera fits this category, and more signings like this should be made moving forward.
