Edu could now sign free-agent midfielder amid Arsenal injury crisis, but he wants £220k-a-week

Arsenal have been really unlucky with injuries recently.

The Gunners, when everybody is fit and available, are one of the best teams in the world and are capable of beating any side.

However, for the North London Derby against Tottenham, Arsenal could have seven players unavailable, which is a massive blow.

Midfield is the biggest worry as Declan Rice is suspended while both Martin Odegaard and summer signing Mikel Merino have suffered injuries.

There is one free agent Arsenal could sign to soften the blow.

Arsenal could sign Adrien Rabiot for free but there’s a problem

Adrien Rabiot left Juventus in the summer after his contract expired.

The experienced Frenchman was offered a new deal by The Old Lady, but he turned it down and is yet to find a new club.

Rabiot has been linked with a move to Arsenal, and following the Gunners’ injury crisis, an argument can be made that Edu Gaspar should look at the free-agent market for reinforcements.

However, Arsenal will have to pay a fortune in wages to sign Rabiot.

GiveMeSport have revealed that both Arsenal and Manchester United have been informed that they will have to hand Rabiot a £220,000-a-week contract if they want to sign him.

To compare that with Arsenal’s current wage bill, Rabiot would become the Gunners’ fourth-highest-paid player if they meet his demands.

We just can’t see Arsenal signing him on those terms despite the links.

There’s another big problem with Rabiot that makes him an unnecessary signing

Rabiot’s wages are way too high even though he’s a decent player and has a lot of experience at the top level. We just don’t think he’s worth it.

However, even if Arsenal believe he can add value to the squad amid the injury crisis, there is a problem.

The report claims that Rabiot could take ‘up to two months to be fit for Premier League standards’ having not played any football since the summer.

That makes him redundant as in two months, all of Arsenal’s injured players are expected to be back fit and ready to go.

So, we think there’s no need for Rabiot at all.
