‘Electric’ Arsenal player was so ‘sad’ after Manchester United refused to sign him

Before Arsenal signed Gabriel Martinelli, Manchester United had the opportunity to get him.

Yep, that’s right, the Red Devils could’ve signed the Brazilian long before we were even interested in him, but, for whatever reason, they decided against it. Martinelli was apparently very ‘sad’ at the time.

Arsenal signed Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano, a fourth-tier Brazilian club, back in the summer of 2019 for just £6 million.

The ‘electric‘ Brazilian took English football by storm. He scored 10 goals and provided four assists in just 15 starts as a teenager, which is an unbelievable return for someone of his age.

Arsenal fans absolutely love Martinelli now, but things could’ve been very different had Manchester United been as good as us when it comes to spotting top talent.

The Athletic reveal that Martinelli had trials at Manchester United on four separate occasions. He had his heart set on joining the Red Devils, but they passed on that opportunity.

Luiz Antonio Moraes, Martinelli’s coach at U15s level at Ituano, has revealed to The Athletic that the Brazilian was ‘sad’ that United didn’t sign him. However, he got over it very quickly.

He said: “He was sad when the United move didn’t work out, but it didn’t last long.

“But he just kept working. Maybe even more than before. Ga is a great example for all young players. Things never went to his head.”

Man United’s loss is our gain

Manchester United fans will be fuming after learning that their club decided against signing Gabriel Martinelli – long before he was on Arsenal’s radar.

The Brazilian has been one of the best players in the Premier League since the start of last season. He scored 15 goals and provided five assists last term, and he scored the winner against Manchester City last weekend and earned praise from Pep Guardiola.

Martinelli is still only 22. He’s already so good even though he’s nowhere near his prime yet, and that’s really exciting for us Arsenal fans.

We are absolutely convinced that Martinelli will go on to become one of the best players in the world in the coming years, and that should annoy Manchester United supporters even more.
