Arsenal now know what they will have to pay to secure the services of Ivan Toney.

Mikel Arteta seems keen to bring Ivan Toney to Arsenal. As reported by The Mirror, the Gunners are plotting a January move for the Brentford striker,.

Now, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Bees have set a clear asking price for the 27-year-old.

Writing in his Daily Briefing, Romano said, “there is interest from Arsenal…For Brentford, the price tag has to be something around £65 million. Not less than £65 million. They want more than this but the feeling of sources is that for £65 million a deal could be done.”

There is no doubting Toney’s quality. The once-capped England man was in prolific form last season. He racked up twenty Premier League goals last time out.

At his best, Toney can be the kind of goalscorer that the Gunners currently need. Some pundits are certainly convinced that Toney would be a star at the Emirates Stadium.

Question marks linger over Ivan Toney

It is not surprising that Arsenal are in the market for a new striker. Gabriel Jesus is a supreme talent, but his finishing is unreliable. Equally, Eddie Nketiah can be relied upon to put an honest shift in but he is not of the standard required to fire the north London club to a title triumph.

That being said, there have to be some doubts about Toney. He is currently serving a ban for breaching betting rules and won’t be allowed to return to action until January, at which point he won’t have played in eight months. It would be a big ask for him to hit the ground running off the back of such a lengthy lay-off.

Equally, Arsenal may struggle to match Brentford’s asking price. Having spent heavily in the summer to bring the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber to the club, there may not be a huge amount left in the coffers to fund a major January purchase.

At least Arsenal now know what to expect from Brentford should they push forward in an attempt to sign Toney.
