Arsenal star Jakub Kiwior has struggled for game time this season, and was recently linked with a move to AC Milan.

The defender joined from Serie A side Spezia in January last year, and has been impressive when called upon.

He has made just 10 appearances across all competitions this season, playing just 15% of Arsenal’s possible minutes.

However, it emerged that Arsenal are not willing to let Kiwior leave, and it now appears that Milan have given up their pursuit of the defender.

AC Milan give up Jakub Kiwior pursuit

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed in his Daily Briefing that AC Milan have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Kiwior, and will now move onto other targets.

“AC Milan will sign a new centre-back in 2024 and Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior is one of the names on their list,” he claimed.

“The problem is the Gunners are currently not keen on letting him go on loan and Milan can only proceed with a loan deal. That’s why they are now considering other targets.

Kiwior is in a tough position, as Gabriel Magalhaes, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko have all been excellent in recent weeks as players in his position.

Arsenal have little defensive depth, making Kiwior crucial to Mikel Arteta, but it is difficult for him to nail down a starting spot right now.

However, rotation will be key in the coming months, and defender William Saliba is perhaps too important to risk in some games. Kiwior could find himself gaining more opportunities in the next few weeks in what is a busy schedule ahead of Christmas.

Kiwior came on at half time in Arsenal’s 6-0 victory over Lens in the Champions League and delivered an excellent display, wowing fans with his strong ability on the ball, and the 23-year-old is clearly talented.

Arteta may regret not using Kiwior more last season after Saliba picked up a long-term injury, and Arsenal saw their title challenge collapse.

It is clear that Arteta rates Kiwior highly enough to have him as a crucial squad member for a thin back line, but he will need to give him more opportunities given that giant clubs such as AC Milan are keeping an eye on him.

Arsenal face PSV Eindhoven next week in a game which now means nothing in terms of group qualification, and it will provide the perfect opportunity for Kiwior to gain more minutes in the first- team.
