Arsenal are reportedly still interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal retain a long-held interest in Douglas Luiz.
Luiz is a key player for Aston Villa. As one of Unai Emery’s most trusted lieutenants, the Brazilian is a regular starter and has begun the new season in fine form. The 25-year-old has already racked up four goals across all competitions.
The Villans wouldn’t want to let Luiz leave cheaply. They aren’t under any pressure to sell, and they would certainly find the £75,000-a-week ace difficult to replace.
They have successfully staved off an approach from Arsenal for the player before. The north London club saw a £25 million offer for the nine-cap Brazil international rejected in the summer of 2022.
It is easy to see why Mikel Arteta is so keen on Luiz. Steven Gerrard previously described him as a “fantastic talent” and it seems that the Arsenal boss agrees with that assessment.

Luiz an ideal fit for Arsenal
There could also soon be an obvious space for Luiz in the Arsenal squad. Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, and Jorginho are all approaching the end of their careers. Jorginho has even been linked with a January departure, with Barcelona keen to secure his services, as reported by ESPN.
Heading into the prime years of his career, with plenty of Premier League experience already under his belt, Luiz is an ideal candidate to form part of a new-look Arsenal midfield contingent.
Alongside Declan Rice, Luiz could make the Gunners a dominant force in the middle of the park for years to come.
However, it may be decided that there are more pressing concerns in the squad that need to be addressed first. A move for a new right-winger to rotate with Bukayo Saka, or an elite-level striker may be considered higher priorities.
