‘Genius’ Arsenal star is now on a flight as he’s set to make deadline day transfer

Arsenal are looking to sell some squad players before the transfer window slams shut on deadline day.

Andrea Berta has spent over £250 million on seven players this summer, with Piero Hincapie still expected to arrive before the end of the window.

Thus, Mikel Arteta’s squad has become somewhat bloated, and several players subsequently need to be moved on.

The likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira and Sambi Lokonga are all expected to depart N5 on Monday, while Jakub Kiwior is set to join Porto.

Fabio Vieira is flying to Hamburg ahead of a loan move

Fabio Vieira was once described as a ‘genius’, but the Portuguese’s career development has stalled in recent years.

The playmaker endured a slightly frustrating loan spell back at Porto last season and returned to Arsenal this summer to be informed that he’s surplus to requirements at the Emirates.

Berta has been looking to find Vieira a new home over recent weeks, with moves to Stuttgart and West Ham seemingly not materialising despite talks being held with both clubs.

However, the Italian sporting director looks set to succeed in moving the midfielder on, with Florian Plettenberg reporting that Vieira is on the verge of joining Bundesliga club Hamburger SV.

The German outfit and the Gunners have reached an agreement for the player, who is expected to leave on an initial loan deal.

Hamburg will also have an option to buy included in the deal, with the value of this purchase clause not yet reported.

Vieira is on a flight to the city in Northern Germany, with his medical likely scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Fabio Vieira needs to play regularly

Vieira will turn 26 next May, and thus, he needs to start playing more regularly to continue his development and fulfil his potential.

So far in his career, the former Portugal under-21 international has started just 46 league games – a tally that is not sufficient for a player of his age.

He started five Premier League games in two years at Arsenal, while last season’s 21 starts was the most in his career thus far.

Undoubtedly a talented footballer, Vieira needs to be deployed in a system that can platform his best attributes, and in a league that isn’t overly physical.
