Many young footballers across the globe dream of playing for Arsenal, and this has been the case for a long, long time.
The Gunners are one of the best clubs in the history of the Premier League, and Arsene Wenger’s brilliant style of football attracted fans from every corner of the world.
Some players, like Eberechi Eze, get their dream move to Arsenal, but not everyone reaches that level.
Xaver Schlager is one such player whose Arsenal dream hasn’t come true, but he’ll play against them in the upcoming season.
Imagine you are Andrea Berta. Who is your top target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window?
Xaver Schlager dreamt of joining Arsenal, now he’s signing for Nottingham Forest
Schlager started his career in his home country of Austria and was part of the Red Bull group at Salzburg.
In 2019, the midfielder was signed by Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, where he made a very good name for himself.
Just three years later, Red Bull bought him back, this time at Leipzig. He played over 100 games for the club before running his contract down and leaving as a free agent.
Multiple reports, including ones from David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, have confirmed now that Schlager is set to join Nottingham Forest.
We’re sure the 28-year-old is happy with his move, but his dream since he was a kid was always to join another Premier League club – Arsenal.
In 2019, Schlager told Kicker: “I have been a fan of Arsenal FC since childhood. This is my dream club. And it’s my dream to play there sometime.”
The Austrian will likely play at the Emirates next season, but it won’t be for the Gunners – he will play against them for Forest.

Arsenal need a new midfielder but it won’t be Xaver Schlager
Arsenal are short of options in central midfield.
Christian Norgaard is expected to be sold, while Declan Rice is absolutely knackered and nursing an injury after months of non-stop action.
Schlager was available for free, but he isn’t on Arsenal’s level. The Gunners are trying to sign Bruno Guimaraes instead, and he would be an incredible signing.
However, Newcastle will surely make it difficult for the Premier League champions after already selling Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.
