Spanish outlet Sport claimed yesterday that Real Madrid sensation Martin Odegaard is one step away from a loan move to Arsenal.

The Norwegian is fed up of his situation at the Spanish capital. Odegaard has started just five games in all competitions this term. He has played just five minutes of football in La Liga since the start of December, and that has irked him.

He is desperate for regular game time and a loan move away from Madrid is the best option for him. Most Arsenal fans would love to have him this month, but there are a few who have their doubts over Odegaard.

If they need a bit of convincing, former Arsenal star Nacho Monreal’s comments about him should do the trick.

The Spaniard told Marca in November 2019: “He surprised me a lot. When you see him in training and playing, you realise that he’s a special player. And, as a person too, he’s a good lad.”

“The truth is that Odegaard is breaking through and I think that he’s found the right place, we’re adapting to his way of playing. He’s enjoying himself and he’s raising the level of the group.”

Edu should go all out for Odegaard

It does look like Arsenal are locked in negotiations with Real Madrid to sign Odegaard on loan in the coming weeks. A permanent deal is not an option at the moment and even if it was, we wouldn’t have been able to afford that this month.

Real Madrid want him to get minutes and Arsenal need all the help we can get in the number 10 position. Signing Odegaard on loan is the best thing for all parties involved, but the competition is fierce.

Real Sociedad, the club he was on loan at last season, are also reportedly pushing hard to sign him. However, a move to the Premier League will be a good step for him in his development, and if he can find his feet, he will change the course of our season.
